Our annual holiday concert! A feast of fine music, Victorian architecture, terrific food, and the fun of trains, set in one of Pittsburgh’s most remarkable 19th-century mansions. Featured is a program of quintet favorites, old and new. The Concerto for Wind Quintet, by Belgian composer-organist Joseph Jongen, is a wonderful work in a post-Impressionist style written during World War II. Recent works include the charming Kaleidoscope by Venezuelan-American composer Efraín Amaya and the Quintet of the late Pittsburgh composer/cellist Paul Critser. Holiday selections include R. James Whipple’s Four Jewish Dances and secular Christmas music arranged by Keith Powell.

Following the concert is a meet-the-artist reception and a tour of the world’s finest collection of pre-WWII “standard-gauge” electric trains by Lionel, American Flyer, Ives, and other pioneering toy companies.
