William Walton’s Façade opens the Winds’ 2013-14 season. This landmark work of the 1920s features the rhythmic reading of Edith Sitwell’s poetry with an unusual ensemble of flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, cello, and percussion. The readers will be legendary choral conductor Robert Page and noted actress/singer Kate Young. Façade hasn’t been heard in Pittsburgh in more than two decades; don’t miss these performances! Both are at Third Presbyterian Church at Fifth and Negley in Shadyside, at 8pm on Friday September 20 and 3pm on Sunday, September 22. Tickets are $15 general admission; $10 for students and seniors.
