St. Anthony Chapel – 1704 Harpster Street, Pittsburgh PA 15212
(Troy Hill)
The Renaissance City Winds kick off the weekend celebration of St Anthony Day in Troy Hill, in the amazing St. Anthony Chapel. This program features organist Mark Brampton Smith on the recently rebuilt pipe organ of the chapel. In honor of the America 250th, he will perform the virtuosic variations of the national anthem by American composer John Knowles Paine, and join the Winds for a Baroque concerto by Hertel and a unique wedding march by Winds bassoonist and resident composer, R. James Whipple. The program also highlights a German romantic work for wind quartet and a trio by the late Robert Washburn. This program has been very popular on tour and now returns to Pittsburgh: “Nothing short of brilliant.” [OLEAN TIMES HERALD]
