The Winds will return to Holmes Hall on Saturday, November 30 for our traditional Thanksgiving weekend concert, followed by a tour of the spectacular toy train museum upstairs. Set in one of Pittsburgh’s most remarkable 19th-century mansions, this concert features chamber music surrounded by historic architecture. A meet-the-artist reception follows with a guided tour of the world’s finest collection of pre-WWII “standard-gauge” electric trains by Lionel, Ives, American Flyer, Bing, and other pioneering toy companies. Note the slightly-earlier start time this year: 7:30 pm.
The Winds will be joined by noted baritone Eugene Perry, singing the charming Pügesange by American composer Brian Holmes and three songs by Perry’s grandfather, the pioneering African-American composer Herbert Franklin Mells. A classic French Romantic work by Charles Lefebvre and a selection of holiday favorites round out the program.
